EROSION BUNDLE PROJECT.... Final Update!

My goodness me, it's been a long time since I last blogged!  So for anyone still out there and patient enough to follow me, I thought I'd give an update on the latest regarding my Erosion Bundle Project which I blogged about earlier in the year.

Back on 1 January this year I put together a fascinating mix of silks, scraps of fabrics, old photos, bits of rust, teabags, threads and all sorts of weird and wonderful things.  These were wrapped with string in a silk habotai scarf and then hung in the apple tree in my garden.  I could have buried it, but decided instead just to leave it out to the elements.

I then had to be really patient and wait until 1 April to see what had happened to it.  We don't get frost down here on the tip of Cornwall, but the wind and the rain had done their magic.

Once the precious package was unwrapped (and the odd spider and bug encouraged to run off!) I was left with a wonderful collection of objects that had 'eroded' and discoloured - but what to do with them?

For several months this collection sat in a basket in my studio while I pondered how to present them.  I wanted to remain true to the original idea and only use items that were genuinely put out in the bundle.  Should I present them in a container or display box of some kind?  Should I attempt to attach it all to a canvas to be hung on the wall?... In the end I decided to make a handmade book into which all the papers and fabrics and items could be attached (with glue and with hand stitching).

So after almost twelve months, here are some photographs of my Erosion Bundle Project Book  (you can find a short video of the book on my 'Sally MacCabe Studio Gallery' Facebook page.

The cover (chamois leather, linen buttons, onion skins, dupion silk)

I hope maybe this might inspire you to have a go in 2016 - its not that long til 1st January afterall... good luck!
